The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amenfi Central, Peter Amponsah, received commendations when he appeared before Parliament’s Select Committee on Local Government and Rural Development during deliberations on the Annual Audit Statement of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

Committee members, led by Chairperson Queenstar Sawyer, raised concerns about the long-standing water challenges in the district.

In response, Mr Amponsah revealed that with support from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, about 60 boreholes had already been constructed to ease the burden on residents.

The announcement was met with warm reactions from the committee.

Ms Sawyer described the MP as “a truly dedicated and hardworking woman,” with other members applauding both the MP and the DCE for their teamwork and commitment to improving lives in the district.

For many families, the boreholes are more than just water sources — they symbolise hope and relief after years of struggle.

The intervention is expected to significantly reduce the stress of fetching water, particularly for women and children.

Residents remain optimistic that the collaboration between their leaders will pave the way for more development projects in the district.
