A/R: Soldier impersonator jailed 15 years
A circuit court in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a 35-year-old driver, Yaw Gyamfi, to 15 years in prison for defrauding two persons of a total of GHS16,300.
He had promised to enlist them in the Ghana Armed Forces.
The convict allegedly impersonated a military officer and took money from the prospective recruits.
Some of the victims include his girlfriend’s sister, from whom he took GHS1,300 to facilitate her supposed recruitment.
He also got GHS15,000 from a chief identified as Nana Kwarteng Ababio II under the pretence of enlisting his four children into the army.
The suspect went into hiding but was eventually arrested by the police at Krofrom-Jacob.
A military T-shirt was retrieved from his bag.
The court, presided over by His Honour Mark Diboro, charged Yaw Gyamfi with defrauding by false pretence after he admitted to committing the offence.
