SHS placement fraud probe: Make report public – Apaak to Education Ministry
The Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament, Dr Clement Apaak, is calling for the release of the findings of a Committee Report into allegations of Senior High School (SHS) computerised placement fraud.
This follows the release of an exposé by the Fourth Estate (Media) uncovering alleged fraud in the Computerized School Selection and Placement System – (CSSPS).
In the exposé, the irregularities that have flooded the CSSPS were uncovered in a video leading to the arrest of some persons.
Reacting to the exposé, the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Education Committee questioned why the Ministry of Education, despite setting up a committee to investigate allegations of corruption levelled against the CSSPS is yet to make the findings public.
In a tweet, Dr Apaak intimated: “A letter establishing a committee to investigate allegations of corruption in school placement in 2022.
“Question is, why has the Minister for Education not made public the committee report, has anyone been held accountable?”
“We demand that the report be made public,” he added.
The Ministry of Education launched investigations into allegations of Senior High School (SHS) computerized placement fraud.
This followed the National Security Minister, Mr Kan Dapaah’s, referral of the matter to the Education Ministry after an exposé by the Fourth Estate unveiling the alleged irregularities associated with the Computerized Schools Selection Placement System (CSSPS).
The five-member committee was tasked to investigate “the allegations of corruption into the CSSPS during the 2022 Senior High School (SHS) Placement period of Basic Education Certificate Examination Candidates into First Year of Senior High School.”
The Committee, after its work, was expected to submit its findings to the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Adutwum, “for onward submission to the National Security Ministry for necessary action.”
The Committee will also be expected to “ascertain on any other matter relevant to the issues that may be related,” to the subject matter if any, a letter from the Education Ministry dated Tuesday, 21 June 2022 indicated.
