Flood alert: Burkina Faso to spill excess water from Bagre Dam

SONABEL, the power utility company of Burkina Faso, has issued a warning to the Volta River Authority (VRA) regarding its intention to release surplus water from the Bagre Dam due to the significantly increased inflow into the reservoir.
This impending spillage operation is expected to result in a substantial rise in water levels along the White Volta River and its associated tributaries. Consequently, communities residing in proximity to the White Volta River, particularly, are facing an elevated risk of flooding.
In light of this critical situation, the VRA is urgently urging all relevant stakeholders, including residents, local chiefs, opinion leaders, security agencies, and the general public, to be acutely aware of this development.
It said it is of paramount importance that everyone takes proactive measures and necessary precautions to mitigate the potential adverse effects stemming from the imminent spillage from the Bagre Dam.
