The Forestry Commission of Ghana has intensified its awareness campaign on forest conservation by engaging students in educational programmes. This initiative is part of activities marking this year’s International Day of Forests, themed "Forests and Foods."

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Commissioner of the Forestry Commission, the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Joyce Kwafo, highlighted the devastating impact of illegal mining (galamsey) on the country’s forests.

She noted that rapid deforestation caused by illegal mining activities is threatening Ghana’s natural resources and urged students to play a role in preserving the environment.

As part of the conservation efforts, Ms. Kwafo encouraged students to plant trees on important occasions such as their birthdays to contribute to reforestation efforts.

The Forestry Commission’s educational campaign is aimed at fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among the youth and promoting sustainable forest management in Ghana.
