GBA condemns security brutalities against civilians

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has said “under no circumstance should operatives of the security agencies, under the pretext of maintaining peace, manhandle and assault people or use physical force, which, sometimes, results in the death of the victims”.
In a statement to condemn the recent spate of such brutalities, the association said the rule of law “must prevail at all times in our dear country.”
Following the mob lynching of Ibrahim Kaaka Mohammed in Ejura, Ashanti Region recently, the military gunned down two demonstrators who were marching to demand justice for the social media activist.
Subsequent to that, some 86 soldiers in Wa, the Upper West regional capital, harassed and assaulted civilians randomly in search for their stolen mobile phone.
The GBA says the government and other stakeholders must thoroughly and swiftly conduct fair probes into such incidences.
The group says anybody found culpable should be duly punished.
