Heavy rainfall triggers widespread flooding in Accra, stranding residents

Several areas in Accra were severely flooded, causing significant challenges for residents following an intense downpour on Wednesday.
The heavy rains began in the morning and continued throughout the day, exacerbating the situation. Regions such as Ofankor Barrier, Spot M, Taifa, Madina Market, and parts of Kaneshie were particularly affected by the flooding.
The consequences of the floods were felt most acutely on major roads, which became inundated, leading to extensive traffic congestion. This left road users and commuters stranded, unable to navigate through the flooded streets.
Additionally, in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, the area of Ngleshie Amanfro experienced significant flooding, while the suburb of Peace Town became completely cut off from surrounding areas.
The dire circumstances forced residents of Peace Town to wade through the floodwaters on Thursday morning, in order to reach their workplaces and schools. For those unable to traverse the flooded streets on foot, they had to rely on others to carry them to safety.
