Work resumes on Ashaiman-Akosombo junction road

Construction on the 64km Ashaiman to Akosombo Junction Road has resumed after being halted for nearly a year.
The project, a key component of the Eastern Corridor Road upgrading (Lot 1), is vital for enhancing transportation infrastructure in the region.
The project involves creating a dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction, building a flyover at Ashaiman Roundabout, an interchange at Asutsuare Junction, and 11 pedestrian footbridges.
It also includes the construction of three river bridges and various ancillary works, such as drainage structures and walkways.
During a brief stopover en route to the Volta and Oti regions, Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, conducted an inspection of the ongoing work.
"The contractor is currently undertaking earthworks between Asutsuare Junction and Akuse Junction to widen the road into a dual carriageway.
“Additional work fronts are also opening up, including site clearing from Doryumu Junction towards Asutsuare Junction,” the Minister revealed.
The project, which began in May 2022, was initially scheduled for completion by November 2024.
However, progress was interrupted in July 2023 due to the government's debt exchange programme.
