#2024Polls: Polling stations increased by 2000 to ensure 'seamless' elections – EC
Noting the elections were “seamless,” the Electoral Commission has revealed it was the result achieved because "we set up a strategy that ensured the smooth flow of the process".
This included, the EC said, “the threshold of 750” and the increase of polling stations nationwide by more than 2000.
The Jean Mensa-led commission said so in it's fourth media update on Saturday night, December 7, 2024, after voting.
“In 2020, we had 38,622 polling stations and this was increased this year to 40,648. The difference of 2,026 polling stations.
“So the usual congestions at the polling stations were reduced drastically.”
Remarking the elections had been generally “very peaceful,” the EC acknowledged “pockets of violence” resulting in the unusual death of one person.
The EC mourned with the bereaved family. However, it underlined the “unfortunate” death was not recorded due to its “action or inaction”.
