Former Majority Leader of Parliament, Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, has reaffirmed his claim that businessman Ibrahim Mahama played a pivotal role in persuading his brother, then-President John Dramani Mahama, to concede defeat in the 2016 general elections.

His remarks come in response to former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Charlotte Osei, who reportedly challenged aspects of his account.

Speaking to the issue on Accra-based Kessben FM, Mr Kyei Mensah-Bonsu stressed that his position has not changed, adding that the chiefs and prominent people spoke to the former President before he conceded defeat in 20i6.

“I still stand by my statement that Ibrahim Mahama persuaded John Mahama to concede defeat in the 2016 elections.

It was not the other way around, where Ibrahim Mahama called Charlotte Osei.

If she is addressing this differently, then she is mistaken,” he said.

The Suame MP emphasised that while the peaceful transition of power in 2016 remains a landmark moment in Ghana’s democratic journey, he felt compelled to clarify the sequence of events amid what he described as “misrepresentations.”

Charlotte Osei has not yet issued a direct response to Kyei Mensah-Bonsu’s latest comments.
