Mahama rejects ‘3rd term’ offer again

President John Mahama has made an emphatic comment yet again on presidential term limits, declaring the constitution leaves no room for a debate.

His remarks come after two persons filed a suit at the Supreme Court last week seeking an interpretation of Article 66(2) which bars a President from serving "more than two terms”.

The plaintiffs argue that non-consecutive terms should not count as two full terms.

But Mahama disagrees, saying "I know that people have gone to the Supreme Court seeking interpretation of the clause that governs the tenure of the President”.

"If you ask my personal opinion, I thought that it was clear. I have read it over several times. It's exactly what it says."

The president added that Ghanaians had given him "one additional term" and his focus was on delivering on that mandate.

He dismissed the calls for him to pursue a third term, maintaining that the constitution is "very clear”.
