President John Dramani Mahama is travelling to Japan and Singapore aboard a commercial flight, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stan Dogbe, has confirmed.

Mr. Dogbe explained that the decision reflects the President’s commitment to prudent use of state resources at a time when the government is seeking to strengthen economic management and cut costs.

The President’s trip to Japan and later Singapore is expected to focus on deepening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and development assistance.

President Mahama has previously emphasised the need for modesty and efficiency in government spending, encouraging public officials to lead by example.

Mr Dogbe's response is in reaction to claims by some elements in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the President left Accra after the Thanksgiving Ceremony held for the late Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Bomah, on a chartered flight.

The President had directed  all government appointees to avoid frivolous travel and travel by economy class
