Police unveil traffic plan for NPP, NDC mega rallies in Accra
The Ghana Police Service has rolled out a detailed traffic management strategy to ensure smooth movement and public safety during two major political rallies scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its rally at Zurak Park in Madina, while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will gather at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon.
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, December 4, the police outlined specific traffic diversions and deployments to manage congestion and prevent potential clashes between supporters of the two parties.
Traffic Guidelines for NPP Supporters Adenta Route: Supporters travelling from Adenta will turn left at Ritz Junction, pass through Aviation and UPSA, and proceed to Okponglo to access the University of Ghana. Dome Route: Those coming from Dome will use Haatso Junction, head toward GIMPA, and then make their way to the University of Ghana. Traffic Guidelines for NDC Supporters Tetteh Quarshie Interchange Route: Supporters travelling from Tetteh Quarshie will turn right at Shiashie, proceed toward UPSA, and join the Madina main road. Dome Route: Those coming from Dome will take a left at KFC Junction on the Haatso Road, continue toward Wisconsin University, and proceed to Zongo Junction. Additional MeasuresA roadblock will be placed near Zurak Park in Madina to regulate traffic flow around the NDC rally venue. Police personnel will be stationed along key routes to provide guidance, assist road users, and ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists.
The police have urged both the NDC and NPP to caution their supporters against any actions that could lead to unrest.
“We encourage all attendees to cooperate with law enforcement officers and maintain discipline to ensure a peaceful atmosphere,” a police spokesperson stated.
The Ghana Police Service reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order as the nation approaches the December 7 general elections.
