We need to think as one continent - Prof Douglas Boateng

Chairperson of the Public Procurement Authority, Dr Douglas Boateng, has called on African leaders to view the continent as one people with a shared destiny rather than fragments of small populations.

He made the remarks while taking his turn as a panellist at the ongoing African Political Parties Summit.

Dr Boateng bemoaned the current state of affairs where Africa is heavily divided along borderline, thereby making it extremely difficult for even Africans to visit other countries on the continent.

This, he indicated, was inimical to the development and progress of the continent and thus called for a more unified and harmonious approach to the way political parties drive Governance in Africa.

Dr Boateng stresses the concern that rather than focus on the 1.4 billion population in Africa, the division has created a situation where indigenous African businesses only focus on the often small populations of their respective countries, thereby limiting the capacity of such businesses to really expand.

"We need to think as one continent and not different countries. Made in Africa is what will save us; made in Africa is what will industrialise us", he stressed.

He called for African Political Parties to collaborate among themselves to tap into the potential of their collective strength.
