British-Nigerian heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has paid a courtesy call on  President John Dramani Mahama during his visit to Ghana, as part of a tour tracing his African roots.

The former unified heavyweight world champion, who has recently expressed a deep interest in reconnecting with his heritage, met with President Mahama to exchange pleasantries and discuss matters of mutual interest, including youth empowerment and sports development in Africa.

President Mahama warmly welcomed Joshua and commended him for his accomplishments in the world of boxing and for being a source of inspiration to millions of young people across the continent.

He lauded the athlete’s decision to connect with his ancestry and explore opportunities to give back to Africa.

Joshua, who has been touring key cultural and historical sites across Ghana, expressed his admiration for the country's rich heritage and acknowledged the critical role Ghana has played in African liberation and unity.

He described the visit as a spiritual and emotional journey, reaffirming his bond with the continent.
