Adenta Church opens doors to flood victims after heavy rainfall
A Catholic church in Adenta has opened its premises to residents seeking shelter after heavy rains on Monday caused flooding in parts of Accra.
In a social media post, St John the Evangelist Catholic Church invited both Catholics and non-Catholics affected by the downpour to take refuge at the facility.
The church also urged residents to prioritise safety as the rainfall continued to intensify.
“Catholics and non-Catholics in Adenta, we have opened doors at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Adenta, for you all. Let us be safe. This rain is ‘abnormally abnormal’. Be safe! Jesus is Lord!” the post stated.
The move follows widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, which left roads impassable, submerged homes, and disrupted transport services.
Emergency teams have been responding in affected areas, while authorities continue to advise residents in flood-prone locations to relocate to safer ground and avoid moving through floodwaters.
The church’s intervention adds to community efforts aimed at supporting those affected as the rains persist.
