Prof Rasford Opoku Darko, of the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Cape Coast, has proposed that the forest area in Adanse, Ashanti Region — where a tragic helicopter crash claimed the lives of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Environment, and six others — be preserved and transformed into a tourist site once official investigations are complete.

Speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s mid-day news on Monday, August 11, Prof. Darko said such a move would both honour the memory of the victims and create a sustainable economic opportunity for the local community.

“This site could serve as a place of remembrance and reflection, while also promoting tourism and generating income for residents,” he noted.

He called on the Environmental Protection Agency and local chiefs to work together in addressing the concerns of affected residents, stressing the need for comprehensive recovery plans to help the community heal from the psychological trauma of the incident.

The crash, which has deeply shaken the region, has sparked broader conversations on how tragedy sites can be preserved for historical and developmental purposes
