Former Second Lady recounts terrifying home invasion
In a harrowing testimony, former Second Lady Matilda Amissah-Arthur recounted a near-fatal encounter with an armed robber in her home during the early hours of Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
The shocking incident unfolded in her bedroom, where she was abruptly awakened by bright lights and found herself face-to-face with a masked man wielding a gun.
Dressed entirely in black with only his eyes visible, the intruder threatened to shoot Mrs. Amissah-Arthur if she moved.
“I thought I was dreaming. So I sat on my bed and rubbed my face just to be sure that I wasn’t dreaming.
And there he was,” she recalled.
The armed robber demanded money, prompting Mrs. Amissah-Arthur to hand over $2400 intended for her mother’s house renovations, €50 of her own money, and all the cedis she had available.
However, the intruder's demands escalated as he insisted on gold and jewellery.
Despite her explanation that she rarely wore jewellery, she eventually surrendered a gold watch, necklace, and earrings she remembered having.
Frustrated by the lack of valuables, the robber became increasingly aggressive.
“He got angry.
He turned my room upside down, and of course, he didn’t find money or any jewellery.
And then he said, ‘You wasted my time, so I will kill you.
But I have to call my boss.’
By this time, he had dragged me from the bed and was hitting my head on the ground,” she narrated.
The situation took a chilling turn when the intruder, after a brief phone conversation, informed Mrs. Amissah-Arthur of his orders.
“He spoke on the phone for a couple of minutes and said, ‘My boss says I should shoot you, but I won’t shoot you, I will strangle you so that you’ll die a slow death and next time you come, you’ll have money.’
So he started strangling me,” she recounted.
Mrs. Amissah-Arthur described the terrifying moments as the robber strangled her to the point of near-unconsciousness, fearing for her life throughout the ordeal.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the pressing need for improved security measures
