Cedi appreciated by 41% against US dollar in 2025 — Finance Minister says
Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the Ghana Cedi appreciated by 40.7% against the US Dollar in 2025, describing it as a major sign of economic recovery.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament, Dr. Ato Forson said the performance of the local currency reflects the impact of government’s fiscal consolidation and monetary policy coordination over the past year.
“Cedi appreciated by 40.7% against the US dollar in 2025," the Finance Minister stated.
He explained that the gains were driven by improved foreign exchange inflows, increased export receipts, and prudent management of government spending.
According to Dr. Forson, the stronger cedi is already helping to ease inflationary pressures and is expected to stabilize prices of fuel, food, and other imported goods.
“We will sustain the policies that contributed to these gains to protect households and businesses from exchange rate volatility for the rest of 2026," he added.
The Minister assured Parliament that government remains committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability as it implements the remaining programs in the 2026 budget.
